Our Cavoodle stud service offers dogs that have been DNA tested for coat traits and shown to be double furnished, meaning they only produce non-shedding teddy bear-coated Cavoodle puppies.

FAQ - Cavoodle stud services

What can I breed a Cavoodle with?

Most Cavoodles carry one furnishing gene, therefore to avoid producing short-haired Cavoodles with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel-like coats that shed, the best Cavoodle breeders use Poodle studs that are double furnished.

All of our Cavoodle stud service dogs are Poodles who are double-furnished and proven to produce stunning fleece and wool-coated non-shedding toy teddy bear-coated Cavoodle puppies.

Breeding a Cavoodle to a Cavoodle will usually result in a litter that has 25% short-haired Cavoodle puppies that shed.

What happens when you breed two Cavoodles?

With most Cavoodles having one furnishing gene, breeding two Cavoodles together results in a litter where some of the puppies have short, smooth hair on the face and legs. These coats tend to shed heavily like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Therefore, most Cavoodle breeders cross Cavoodles with purebred Poodle studs to produce quality non-shedding teddy bear coats in their Cavoodle puppies.

When selecting a stud dog for your Cavoodle, it’s important to select a stud that has two furnishing genes and no improper coat genes.

I’m in another state, can you ship frozen or chilled semen to my reproduction specialist vet for insemination?

We are very experienced in collecting, packaging and shipping our stud dogs’ semen. We work with some of the best reproduction specialist vets in Australia, enabling us to offer our Cavoodle stud services Australia-wide.

We offer our Cavoodle stud services to breeders in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Tasmania, Adelaide and all over NSW.

My Cavoodle is black but I want to breed red and chocolate Cavoodles. What colour Cavoodle stud service should I use?

The colours your Cavoodle is capable of producing will depend on their DNA. We can infer what colours they are likely to carry if you know what colour their parents and siblings are. However, the most accurate way to know what colours your Cavoodle can produce with a particular stud, is to have them DNA tested.

If you want to produce red and chocolate Cavoodle puppies, our studs, ‘Astro’ and ‘Cino’ carry both of these colours and can produce them providing your female Cavoodle also carries those colours.

We are highly experienced and trained in interpreting DNA test results. As part of our Cavoodle stud service, we can guide you to help you achieve your breeding goals when it comes to colour and coat types.

What happens if my Cavoodle doesn’t fall pregnant after using your Cavoodle stud service?

We are a registered business with an active ABN and have been offering our Cavoodle stud services for 6 years.

When you use our Cavoodle stud service, you receive a tax invoice with our terms and conditions. In the unlikely event that your female doesn’t fall pregnant you receive one return service on her next cycle after a vet letter is received by us, to say she isn’t pregnant. This letter is required within 8 weeks from the time of the mating or insemination and requires an X-ray to be conducted by a licensed vet no later than 7.5 – 8 weeks post-mating/insemination to confirm findings of pregnancy or lack thereof.

The vet letter must include the microchip number of the Cavoodle female and this must match the dog that was mated with.

What does your Cavoodle stud service include?

  • Access to professional quality digital photographs of our stud dog for use in your puppy advertisements and if you wish to print them for puppy packs.
  • Copies of our stud dog’s extensive health test results including DNA test results and hip score results. These can be included in your Cavoodle puppy packs and puppy buyers appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing their puppy is from fully health-tested parentage.
  • Support – we have more than 30 years of experience in dog breeding and work with the best reproduction vets in the country.
  • Tax invoice for the Cavoodle stud service.
  • Breeding information – what to expect, what you need to do and when etc.

Our Cavoodle stud service includes up to two natural matings in the one cycle. Alternatively, we offer two onsite AI’s (artificial insemination) if for whatever reason a natural mating cannot be achieved. Sometimes females are snappy and aggressive, making natural matings impossible. At other times, the size difference or anatomy of the female won’t allow for a tie (natural mating).

Process for using our Cavoodle stud service

  • Contact us when your dog starts bleeding. The more notice you’re able to provide will help us put aside the stud of your choosing. We limit the number of stud services our dogs do, to ensure our clients receive quality semen samples. Our stud dogs book out, so please plan ahead and book your stud as early as possible.
  • Progesterone test your female from day 5 of bleeding. This will allow you to pinpoint when ovulation occurs and the best two days in her cycle for you to bring her to our stud dog for breeding.
  • Visit us (near Penrith, NSW) for a natural mating or we can meet at Colyton Vet for AI or TCI (travel fees apply and vet fees are the responsibility of the owner of the female).
